Power Dispatch: Registering your business for text messages (A2P 10DLC)

To ensure compliance with the latest text messaging standards in the US, every Power Dispatch account that is using Twillio to send messages is required to register for A2P 10DLC. This registration is necessary for businesses and individuals to continue operating smoothly without any disruptions.

What is A2P 10DLC?

A2P: Application to Peer

When you fire off an SMS from your cell phone, this is what’s known as peer-to-peer messaging (P2P). Messages are being transferred from peer to peer (or person to person).

A2P, or application-to-peer, is where the message was sent from an application instead of a person ( Power Dispatch in our case). A2P messaging is designed for businesses and individuals that use text messaging to communicate with their customers as it can accommodate massive message volumes and send them faster.

A2P 10DLC is a standardized system in the US that enables businesses and individuals to send Application-to-Person (A2P) messages to consumers using a standard 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone number. The Twilio number, which is used in Power Dispatch by businesses and individuals, to communicate with each other and clients via text messages, falls under this system. Why do I need to register?

The registration requirement arises from the adoption of A2P 10DLC by major carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon back in 2022. These changes affect how businesses and individuals can send messages to consumers and aim to protect consumers from unwanted or spam-like messages.

Registering for A2P 10DLC is essential for businesses and individuals that are using Twillio in the Power Dispatch system, to maintain uninterrupted communication with their customers. Failure to register by the deadline of August 31, 2023, will result in the inability to send text messages to customers using Twillio in your Power Dispatch account.

How do I register?

To comply with the new standard, you must register and complete your Twillio number/s for A2P 10DLC through your Twillio account (click on Account- Overview- A2p Registration), and submit all necessary information required asap.

Note: Failing to register your Twiilio number, will result in message blocking by mobile carriers and subject to fees by Twillio, please see the Twillio article for more information.
